This is the warm up then lift off of an erickson sky crane. It was operating out of the central cascade mountains in washington state, in the us. This helicopter is for fire fighting, and can carry 3,000 gallons of water or retardant to a fire - it's enormous. There are only 31 sky cranes in existence, and in august of 2018 we have two of them fighting fires in our surrounding mountains.

I live next to a car repair place and they have a couple of hot rods that they fire up now and then. This is a '55 chevy and to me the idle sounds like a dragon breathing. The "concrete cello" pack is a collection of scraping, scratchy and droning improvisations on the cello focussing on the creation of sounds to be used as base materials for future compositions. They were originally recorded in 2019 to be used in as sound design elements for the documentary "hotel regina" by director matthias berger for which i composed the music. This clip was made because i was looking for a strong thunderstorm sound effect for a school play. I wasn't able to find one that was strong enough for what i wanted, so this. Mp3 was made in audacity from three other audio files from freesound - they are #s 27247, 2521, and 87472. This information is also in the 'comment' metadata of the mp3 file. As far as i can tell, this is the "strongest" storm available on freesound as of early february 2010. (i could be wrong of course!). If there is interest, i can upload an uncompressed aif of the audacity track (it'll take awhile) but i figured there was no point since 2/3rds of the files used were originally mp3's from here. Crickets outside my house at night. You can hear some cars and a plane going by. -----recorded with a zoom h1 with two sony lavaliere microphones attached, tucked into home-made felt pouches as windscreens, which i suspended from my glasses frames.

The image has been exported to raw format and then was imported into audacity where i applied effects and plugins. The effects and plugins that i use for these sounds called "image sonification" are: eq, paulstretch, reverb among others.

Field recording of elevated subway train in queens. The n and w trains take a sharp turn here, causing the wheels to squeal. Recorded using tascam dr-1 on 24-bit uncompressed setting. Used roll-off at 40 hz to save my speakers. I used a windscreen to cut down on wind noise which can otherwise be a problem on this recorder.

This is a recording made in the province of rieti in italy, in the room of my apartment where i am doing a flight test of my jamara toy drone without sensors. In the background you can hear the songs of renato carosone that i put on my tv and also my parakeets that flutter from time to time. This is a recording i made of the ambience at our local diner one man band-- it's a staple of our local culture and still maintains a, "50s diner" kind of atmosphere-- something you can feel in the air when you visit the place-- i hoped to capture that dynamic with this recording-- the sound of utah-- something lost in time and yet so progressional. Sound of start, idle, accelerating and going through gears, steady state (can be edited and looped for longer scenes) and coast down and shut off. Very throaty sound recorded in-cabin which would be period correct for british cars of that era and useful for in-car scenes behind dialog.

This is a stereo recording made with 2 coincidental mics at 120゜angles and 2 coincidental mics at 90゜angles.

A simple recording of a metal drawer. Recorded with zoom h4n + sontronics stc-10 pencil condensors. This was recorded in my room so unfortunately the signal to ambient noise ratio isn't great, i think it's just passable though.
